Post Quake Vision
Project Type: External Supporting Structure & Public Space
Project Year: 2013 (Competition Entry)
Project Team: Kostas Grigoriadis, Xuanzhi Huang
The Post Quake Visions competition invited ideas for the rehabilitation of earthquake stricken buildings in the town of Crevalcore in Italy. Being more speculative than realistic, the proposed response consisted of 3D printed scaffolding that would be constructed using the sand printing D-Shape technology. The printed structures would prop the exterior walls of damaged buildings, and become a substrate for plants and other flora to grow on, and eventually form a publicly accessible green space. On a micro-scale, the bound sand material would be configured to be more porous on the outer layers of the scaffold in order to encourage various floral organisms to populate the structure.
